Hi there,
We are a small team of writers and editors seeking high quality writers to produce content in a number of worlds and series.
We have an immediate position available specifically for beats writers in a number of genres from urban fantasy, sci-fi and military sci-fi/harem.
If you only have screenwriting experience, please do not apply. The difference in what is required it too vast for us to retrain you.
If you have novel writing and outlining experience, please send us a previous outline you’ve written, as an example.
We prefer people to work with our system, which is based on the Truby story system. It is a distinct advantage if you have taken this course and are willing to use this system. Telling us that you use three-act structure, hero’s journey or save the cat isn’t going to help, because our books require much more plot and narrative drive than is generated by these templates.
You must be fluent in written US English, well-versed in writing action, and able to write both exciting scenes and deep, nuanced characters that draw the reader in. Our goal is to meet and exceed our clients’ expectations, so flexibility in your writing style and attitude is essential to the process.
Even though you’re only writing the beats, some important things to note:
– If your writing is full of ‘walked’, ‘said’, ‘looked’, or ‘nodded’ we’re probably not a good fit
– If you use repeated words and phrases within the same paragraph, we’re not a match
– We also don’t like long narratives with lots of ‘all-knowing’ narrator explanation. We prefer to let the characters’ actions and dialog reveal what’s going on in the characters’ minds
We’re looking for higher standard of writing than often found in the indie market. Our readers are intelligent, deep thinkers. We need our outlines to provide the reveals, the twists and turns including character profiles (for complex characters, not tropes) and demonstrate who these people are through their actions and reactions in scenes.
Compensation
- $300 per outline. Most of our projects are 12-book series, so typical earnings are $3600 per series. Depending on your genres and experience we have several projects you can work on simultaneously.
- We expect you to deliver the 22 steps within a week, and the fully fleshed out scene list the following week. We need these deadlines strictly adhered to. If you can deliver them faster, that’s excellent. You’ll get more work from us.
- Feedback will be given for adjustments to be made to the work. You need to be aware that this is part of what we’re paying for. We will not compensate you for work we find unacceptable/unusable.
Requirements
- English level: Fluent (US dialect)
- Writing level: Expert
- Familiarity with your chosen genre is a must – be it sci-fi, harem, or urban fantasy
- Can follow a strict writing schedule
When responding, please include a novel outline which best showcases your ability to construct beats.
Typically, the first thing we will do is quickly look over your sample to determine if we’d like to proceed, so please be sure to attach something relevant to the position. While we appreciate that your skills may be transferable to writing in this genre, we simply don’t have time for coaching or ramp-up and have had some bad experiences with screenwriters thinking they can “give this a go”. We need novelists who can dive right in with minimal assistance, so please exclude yourself if you do not have any experience with writing novels in one of these genres.

1. Are you fluent in both written and spoken US English?
2. What is your beats writing/ outlining experience?
3. Have you taken any Truby classes? If so, which ones and how long ago? Do you use these in your work currently?
4. Are you capable of delivering a 22 steps outline and then fully fleshed out scene list with description within two weeks? Our publication dates are very important to us.
